However, this year\u2019s tournament was delayed by one week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Similar to this year\u2019s Australian Open, the tournament was delayed to safely ensure players can be in attendance and allow fans to enter the grounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe were rewarded for the choice we made to postpone the Roland-Garros tournament by a week,\u201d said Gilles Moretton, president of the French Tennis Federation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The plan is to accommodate around 5,000 spectators spread across the different venues at the start of the tournament. By the end of competition, the hope is to have 5,000 fans in Philippe-Chatrier Court for the men\u2019s and women\u2019s finals.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Who to Watch<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the men\u2019s side, the greatest clay player in the sport\u2019s history will be looking to cement his claim even more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hoping to capture his fifth straight French Open title,it would be the second time in&nbsp;<strong>Rafael Nadal\u2019s&nbsp;<\/strong>career he would have won the tournament five years in a row. Coming off a three-set victory over&nbsp;<strong>Novak Djokovic<\/strong>&nbsp;to win the Italian Open, there is no reason to think Nadel can\u2019t capture a record 14th French Open Title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other players to watch include:\u00a0<strong>Roger Federer, <\/strong>who is making his return to the French Open after not competing in 2020, Canadian\u00a0<strong>Felix Auger-Aliassime<\/strong>, Norwegian\u00a0<strong>Casper Rudd<\/strong>, and previously mentioned Djokovic, who is having a stellar 2021. Djokovic captured his 9th Australian Open in February and set the Open Era record for most weeks at world No. 1 in March.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unfortunately, top-ranked Canadian&nbsp;<strong>Denis Shapovalov<\/strong> will miss the French Open this year due to a nagging shoulder injury.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/twitter.com\/TennisCanada\/status\/1396578428019740673\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the women\u2019s side, the reigning French Open winner is also coming off a win at the Italian Open earlier this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Iga Swi\u0105tek<\/strong>, world No. 9, is looking to become the first repeat champion on the women\u2019s side since Belgian&nbsp;<strong>Justine Henin&nbsp;<\/strong>captured three-straight French Open titles from 2005-2007.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A trio of top-ranked women will be returning to the French Open after missing out in 2020. World No. 2&nbsp;<strong>Naomi Osaka<\/strong>, 2019 French Open champion&nbsp;<strong>Ashleigh Barty<\/strong>&nbsp;and Canadian&nbsp;<strong>Bianca Andreescu<\/strong>&nbsp;are all looking to play deep into the tournament.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Andreescu had to withdraw from the Strasbourg Open this week due to an injury ahead of the French Open. In her return to the court, Bianca will be using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportinglife.ca\/en-CA\/equipment\/racquets\/tennis-racquets-frames\/speed-mp-tennis-racquet-frame-25416249_000_002.html?cgid=equipment-tennis-tennis-racquets#start=1\">Head Speed MP<\/a> racquet, available at Sporting Life.
