Description

The Kendo from Volkl is the Mantra's slender brother, built for lighter riders or those, who seek the perfect compromise on- and off-piste. With a 90 mm waist width, early taper in the forebody, and tip and tail rocker with camber under foot, the Kendo continues to rack up awards and accolades. Its carefully crafted design elements allow it to feel playful in soft snow, while maintaining the edge grip, stability and frontside performance that have made it so popular.

Features

MULTI-LAYER WOOD CORE

Völkl freeskiing models feature a multi-layer wood core with two different densities of wood. In the binding attachment area, a dense, ash core is used, while in the rest of the ski, the core is poplar. The more dense wood creates secure screw retention and stability, while the softer poplar section allows for resilience and snap. The flex pattern can be tailored to each ski model to match the desired performance characteristics.

TIP & TAIL ROCKER (ON-PISTE)

The ski has a variable edge length in the shovel and tail areas. The variable edge set between the shovel and tail makes the ski turn-happy. That in turn allows for a stiffer flex setup. A longer ski can be selected.

SIDEWALL

A sidewall is the component that will aid in energy transmission to edge of ski. Usually made from a harder material to aid with this purpose.

On average, your skis should fall somewhere between your chin and forehead when held upright. There are a few additional details that play a significant role in determining which ski size is best fit for you. After consulting the size chart, be sure to consider your weight, skill level, skiing style and the type of terrain you’ll be frequenting.

Here are some reasons for sizing up or down:

Weight

  • Size up if you are closer to the high end of your weight range or above average weight for your height.
  • Size down if you are closer to the low end of your weight range or below average weight for your height.

Skill Level and Style

  • Size up if you are an advanced/expert skier who prefers to be fast and aggressive in style.
    • Longer skis tend to have a more stable feel.
  • Size down if you are a beginner/intermediate skier who prefers skiing at a more leisurely pace with quick turns.
    • Shorter skis offer higher overall manoeuverability.

Terrain

  • Size up if you love to explore the backcountry. Most off-piste skiers lean towards longer skis.
  • Size down if you prefer carving your way down a well-groomed mountain or hard pack snow.
